The chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), prime minister Marcel Ciolacu, declared, on Tuesday, in southern Craiova, that he excludes the option of a collaboration with the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), although for the period after the elections, he believes that power should not rest with one person or one party.
Ciolacu attributed to the „election campaign” the recent declarations of the PSD MEP Mihai Tudose regarding a possible alliance with the political formation of George Simion (AUR) after the elections, also alluding to the liberals.
„It’s in the election campaign, it’d normal, what do you expect, to only send smiles to the National Liberal Party (PNL)? But we also saw that the PNL says that they want to govern with Save Romania Union (USR)?! Do you remember the eight months of government with the USR? I don’t want to remember anymore,” replied Ciolacu.
The leader of the social democrats avoided commenting on the different scenarios after the elections, but he still stated that in his opinion, power should not be in the hands of a single person or a single party.
„I said one thing very clearly, what follows, the reforms that follow, the period of development of Romania, must not be confined to a person who wants all the power. (…) You know that there is a person who has always wanted his government. We have seen what has come out. It is our duty to learn from the mistakes of others. I do not think that the next period, after these elections, is a period in which power should be with one man or one party,” added Marcel Ciolacu.
